A Twotti Fruitti Celebration at Berry Patch Farms

Setting Up


I booked Berry Patch Farms back in January for my daughter's birthday party. It is now August and the sun is hot in the sky as we pull into the parking lot at the farm. There are a few other people wandering the farm, enjoying their store and the fields of flowers. The drought has been hard on farmers this year, so they are not advertising any berry picking. I step out of the vehicle, as my husband tells me to go claim the tables I want to use for the party. The booking allows us to use as much space as we want to, but we only need four to five tables, and I select the ones under the shade of the giant oak tree.


Jeremiah and Kyle, our friend who is like a brother to us, bring Zelda over to me at the tables, and start to unload the party supplies out of the SUV. Kyle ends up supervising Zelda while she runs and plays, I start setting everything up, and Jeremiah continues to bring more items from the vehicle. Bethany, Norman, and Zack soon join us. Zack runs off to play with Zelda, and Bethany and Norman start to help with the unloading and set-up. The crew is all here. My mother-in-law and Jeremiah's youngest brother soon show up as well to help.


One of the owners of the farm approached during set-up time and helped lean the benches of the tables from the effects of being outdoors - some dirt, leaves, and bird-poop were promptly removed with a wet rag. The owner, Tim, was very kind. I let him know we needed to pay for the party, as they don't take payments ahead of time. He told me to worry about it later.


I had made "vases" out of real pineapples and stuck flowers in them. I thought I would be filling the pineapples with water and/or ice, so I didn't use a corer as I needed the bottom in tact. If you like this idea and want to try it out for yourself, use the gosh-darn corer. The hollowed pineapples and flowers did just fine without any additional water or ice in the fruit vase. We simply refrigerated the pineapples before the party, and brought them to the farm in a cooler full of ice. It was over 90 degrees and it all survived. It seems there's enough liquid within the pineapple itself to keep the flowers content.

Guests Arrive


Everything is set up now, and the guests start to arrive to celebrate Zelda turning two. I can't believe she's already two years old. We are really thankful for all of those who were able to make it to the party!

Berry Picking


The birthday party package with Berry Patch Farms allows each child to pick a pint of berries. Since the drought affected the harvest, Tim let us know that we could all just run, pick the berries, and eat them out in the field. A group of us took a hayride out to the berries, and let the kids enjoy the taste of blackberries in the summer sun, nature surrounding us all. The children absolutely loved it.

Birthday Shenanigans


We all walked back to the picnic area where the party was set up. Tim would have picked us up with the hayride again, but the walk was short, and we were all enjoying the outdoors. When we made it back, we all ate the pulled pork with fruits, veggies, cheese, and crackers. Once bellies were full, Zelda opened her gifts from her guests - she had opened her gifts from Mama and Dada on her actual birthday. Her loved ones were all very generous.- we needed to borrow space in Norman and Bethany's car to shuttle some of the gifts home!

Post-Party


A lot of our guests helped clean-up the decorations - some even took some flowers home in their pineapple vessels. Several went into the farm stand and bought some products for sale, and were all happy with their purchases. We loved Berry Patch Farms, and we are certain to become regulars to the festivals they hold. Thank you, Tim and Claudia, for letting us celebrate our daughter's birthday at the Berry Patch Farms!
