Day three of my cruise was a lot of fun. I woke up and headed down to the buffet for breakfast. That day, I was too late for breakfast, and ate lunch as my first meal. Who cares? I was on vacation! We were late to port into Cozumel because of Hurricane Matthew and due to security clearance reasons. I ended up getting off the ship around 1500, and the ship wasn’t leaving port until 1900 because of the delay in arrival. I enjoyed my lunch, chatted with a couple who had just gotten engaged on the ship, and then decided to see if they’d let me off the ship to explore Cozumel. The first time I ever went to Cozumel was on Carnival Cruise, and I don’t know what’s going on with that port, but they basically have you boxed into this shopping center unless you have an excursion. I was very happy to see that Norwegian’s port did not limit you in this way, and so I planned to walked the streets a little bit. I got off the ship, and walked down the pier towards the shops that were awaiting us tourists. I bought Dawn and Jeremy their birthday presents, and then proceeded to walk down towards the street below. While I was making my way to the stairs that would lead me to the street, I passed by these street performers. Thing is, I wasn’t 100% sure if they were real people or statues. I was about 80% sure they were people standing very still, so I started to walk by and the guy dressed as Davey Jones jumped, and I did not think it was possible to scream and laugh at the same time, but at that moment, I did. I walked along the street and was lured in by a salesman who basically won me over by saying he had air conditioning in his shop. I kid you not. So I walk down this side street and I go into this guy’s jewelry shop, and he tells me that he has a ring for me for free, no purchase necessary. They were cheap rings, which is to be expected, but I did end up getting a sterling silver starfish bracelet. I really wanted to walk down the street to where these small boats were embanked for a photo. I walked out of the shop, I had other shop owners try to persuade me into their shops, but I had my starfish bracelet, so I walked by them and back out onto the main street. There were horse carriages on the side of the road. I tried to pet one of the horse’s noses, but he tried to eat my hand, so I quit trying to “ooooh” and “ahhhh” at the horses. I made it down to the small boats. By this time I was really being a baby about the heat, so after wandering around a bit, I made my way back to the ship. It was getting dark as well, which if you live near the equator, you know it gets dark around 1800 almost every day (of the summer at least). It was almost time for the ship to deport. I walked down the pier back to the ship, and walking between two huge cruise liners is actually really cool. I got back onto the ship (the one on the right) and I made my way up to the party deck to take photos of the setting sun. Thank you, Disney Cruise, for being a good photo op on the other side of the narrow pier. After the sun had set, I went to the other side of the ship, rested my camera, and took this photo of Cozumel at night: Believe it or not, that was taken with a 1/10 of a second shutter speed. That’s difficult to accomplish without a tripod!
I went and had dinner in the fine dining room again, and went and spend a little time with Deamer and Eric, two friends I had made on the cruise, before heading off to bed. The next day was a day at sea, and then the following I returned to Miami, stayed at the Comfort Suites Miami Airport North, and headed home.
